ABOUT CAZZY 

Discover Her Story 

The Honourable Caroline Emma Neville was born in London and grew up at Audley End Estate, near Cambridge. Cazzy, as she is affectionately known by family and friends, was one of eight sisters in the Neville family. 

Her passion for History and History of Art became her guiding light when she studied at London University in the early 80’s. Shortly afterwards her expertise led to a role as part of the team preserving, protecting and displaying the Royal Collection of paintings at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Sandringham, Balmoral and all over the world. 

In 1994, Cazzy met the young Edward Stanley and after a whirlwind romance, he proposed and they celebrated with a fairytale wedding going on to have three children, Henrietta, Edward and Oliver all grew up at Knowsley Hall and Crag Hall, the family’s holiday home in the Peak District. 

The Earl and Countess embarked on a 30- year restoration project at Knowsley Hall, which has helped to restore their ancestral seat to its former glory. The Earl of Derby has introduced new green policies and is working closely with his son and heir, Lord Stanley to implement these sustainable initiatives. 

The Countess is an accomplished horsewoman and is a national champion in the art of dressage to music. The Earl and Countess of Derby share a passion for the turf and regularly attend all the major races. Ouija Board, their mare in a million, won The Oaks and Australia, her colt foal, won The Derby. 

Philanthropy and Causes 

The Countess of Derby is a frequent supporter of many charitable initiatives in the UK and actively involved in three charities in the Northwest which focus on the health and well-being of children. The Countess of Derby has been president for 25 years of Alder Hey Children’s Charity, the largest children’s hospital in Europe. In 2006, Cazzy was chair of Dream Auction for the NSPCC which raised £5.6m to set up the helpline Children Online.

1984 -1987

Studying History & History of Art at the University of London

1987

Buckingham Palace

Cazzy’s first workplace, Buckingham Palace, where she honed her skills in the curation and preservation of art. Cazzy starts working for Sir Oliver Millar, The Surveyor of The Queen’s Pictures. 

1987-1995

Working for the Royal Collection 

Cazzy’s first role was working for the Royal Collection in all the Royal residences. Her responsibilities included the preservation and display of royal masterpieces travelling the world to organise the touring exhibition Old Masters from the Royal Collection at the National Galleries of New Zealand and Australia. 

1992

Windsor Castle

Cazzy had a major part in saving works of art from Windsor Castle during the November 1992 fire. 

1995- 2002

A Fairytale Wedding and Family life

After a fairytale wedding to Edward Richard William Stanley, the 19th Earl of Derby, on 21st October 1995 at the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Saffron Walden, the couple went on to have three children, Lady Henrietta Mary Rose Stanley (b.1997) Edward John Robin Stanley, Lord Stanley (b.1998) The Honourable Oliver Hugh Henry Stanley (b.2002). 1998

The State Opening of Parliament

The Countess of Derby at the State Opening of Parliament.

2006

The Stanley Cup was given by his forbear, Frederick Arthur, later 16th Earl of Derby, to the people of Canada for their ice hockey championship when he was Governor General of Canada.

2002
